Here's a thought, could they not be as popular as they used to be because...i don't know....they create ZERO impact on the ground in the lives of the british people? When the news was filled with how supermarket shelves were empty, and people had to go to public kitchen and chose between heating and food, I didn't see the royals and their acres and acres of farmland contributing to these public kitchen to ensure all brits had enough to eat. Isn't being a royal just like any other job? If the company can run smoothly without said staff, then your role is not crucial and you're not indispencible. If the royal family wants to stay relevant they should create greater impact on the ground in the lives of their people. Make themselves indispensable. And please, don't go around showing off piano playing skills and royal portraits when people don't have food on the table. Hungry people don't get full by listing to a piano concerto or staring at a portrait....just my humble opinion.....
